Our Mission:
The mission of dmvCAPS is to unite physiologists throughout the greater Virginia, Maryland, and District of Columbia area. We strive to foster collaborative science, networking, and career development through an open and inclusive association. We also promote public outreach and education to bring physiology to the broader community. With close proximity to the nation’s Capitol, our chapter specializes in science policy and advocacy for biomedical research funding. Our capstone event each year is our Annual Meeting, which emphasizes local student and trainee participation.
Our History:
dmvCAPS was founded April 14, 2013 and was incorporated as a nonprofit corporation shortly thereafter. It is closely associated with the American Physiological Society (APS) in Bethesda, Maryland. It is the first and only local APS chapter to be founded by graduate students and to encompass physiologists in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
